8 deadly tips for getting ALL the shots you want!

Your wedding day will go by in a flash! You will literally hear this a million times!
How do you ensure that you wake up the next day, knowing that your photographer captured ALL the shots you wanted? What about your Granny? Or your group of college buddies?

It is understandable that you might be pulled from person to person on your wedding day, all wanting a piece of you or a photo of you with them. You will be revelling with your guests and catching up with people whom you have not seen in years. You won't have time to be thinking about who to get pictures with. You need your photographer to be ON THIS!

Here are some great tips to make sure you get as much from your wedding photography as possible, in this quick-as-a-flash-day!

1.
Communicate!! Tell your photographer what you would like them to capture.
When it comes to 'couple photos', show them what you like from their work and say "I love this type of shot" etc. There are so many different types of ‘couple shots’ out there. Smoochy romantic ones, casual walking together shots, creative artistic (not-even-looking-like-we-like-each-other) shots! Explain how lovey-dovey you would like these shots to be, to give your photographer a good idea of the kind of couple you are.

2.
Have a plan for the day as to how things will run. This can change of course as weddings are such fluid days but having a loose plan is really helpful and will ensure that you have enough time to get all the shots with different people that you might like.

3.
Make a shortlist for your photographer of all the 'group' shots you would like.
I say ‘short’ because the longer the list, the more your photographer is missing out on all the fun and spontaneous shots and everyone wants those photos the most!

“We could not recommend Nicola highly enough as a photographer. Right from the moment we met her we felt relaxed and that she took a genuine interest in what we wanted to get out of the photos rather than some sort of off the shelf "standard" service. Nicola took the time to identify the type of shots we wanted and didn't want and the end product is just stunning and we are absolutely delighted with her.” - Alan and Laura

4.
Think about the people you love who will be there. What about the elderly guests, Great Aunts etc that you hardly ever see. Remember to tell your photographer about them. You will be so glad when you see them included in the gallery. It’s a great idea to ask a close family member to point out to your photographer, all the people who are closest to you both. This way the photographer can candidly capture them unawares.

5.
Don’t spend too long on your ‘couples shots’. Of course, it’s really important to get great shots of you together but I promise you, you will cherish the shots of family and friends even more!

6.
Do you have a gang of girls or lads that have something in common, like you all worked together or went to college together? Why not ask your photographer to capture them too! They can all have a copy of the photo afterward!

7.
Maybe you love confetti shots, or maybe you’d love a silhouette shot by a certain window. Is there a favourite place in the walled garden that you’d love to go to?

8.
Are there pictures you are certain that you don’t want’?!
Some brides hate the idea of photographing their shoes. If this is you then communicate this to your photographer!
Maybe there are certain family members that you’d rather not get pictures of, yes this is not unusual. Just let your photographer know these too and they can avoid this.

The main thing is, yes I’ll say it again, communicate as much as you can to your photographer. Make sure that you pick someone that suits your style of wedding. i.e. don’t choose a casual documentary photographer if you would like lots of formal photos etc. You get the picture!

Photography is one of the most important decisions you will make.
Lots of people get it wrong and regret their decision.
Your photos are what you are left with after everything is over.
They will hopefully help you to relive this amazing day, bring back the feelings that you felt, and help you remember all the amazing moments.

Get this right!
